On June 19th, 1865, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, TX learned of their freedom. In 2021, former President Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into Law, making June 19th a federal holiday. This was the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was established in 1963!
